Several of the strongest fortifications in Hitler's Atlantic Wall were build in Norway.

This booklet deals with the history of the Adolf Guns and the coastal artillery batteries in the Atlantic Wall, where these enormous 16" naval guns were used. The situation in Germany after World War I, Hitler’s rise to power and the following rearmament with relevance to the guns is discussed.

The development of the German Kriegsmarine is especially described, together with the development, construction and use of the Adolf Guns. The guns meant for the series of battleships that was to follow the Bismarck class.

The German development of the coastal artillery in Norway, with special emphasis on the Adolf Batteries in Steigen and Trondenes is elucidated, but also the batteries in Poland and France. The battery in France at Sangatte was among the batteries that shelled Kent during WW II.

A separate chapter deals with the treatment of the Russian prisoners of war who were used as slave labour in the building of the batteries at Trondenes and Steigen. Between 12-1300 POWs lost their life as a result of the very inhumane treatment while building the two batteries.

This 64 pages booklet is richly illustrated with over 60 photographs from the war and of the batteries and guns today. Some never published before. A book with a unique history that can not be found elsewhere.

Of special interest to British readers is that the Adolf Guns in Batterie Lindemann near Calais were used by the Germans from 1942-44 in the heavy bombardment of the coastal areas at Dover and Kent, as well as Allied shipping in the Straight of Dover.
